Amanda Levete Fireplace

Islington, London
Materials:
GRG , Sto-render, Lazer etched black Stainless Steel
This beautiful fireplace was made for Amanda Levete's private home. It is a sweeping and smooth sto-rendered shape, with a lazer-cut black stainless steel back, and is easily recognisable as Lavetes work.
The shape was CAD designed in the positive, but we made it by machining the shape in the negative; ie we machined the mould itself. The final shape was then cast out in Glass Reinforced Gypsom and finished expertly by hand. This form required precision as it fit into a curving wall, and was the beginnings of a method which we developed further when making Skylights for AL_A Architects and Desks for Sky Television.
