Job:

Olympic Medal Trays

Location:

London

Materials:

PU Resin

Tasked with designing the Olympic Medal Presentation Tray based upon the faceted design of the Podiums, our talented sculptor Matt produced this design. It was then CNC machined in Ebalta board and hand finished. An acid etched Logo was inlaid into the model surface and this became the master 'pattern' for making the moulds in rubber. Flat surfaces are notoriously difficult to cast, so we side-stepped this problem by only casting the faceted 'frame' of the tray, blocking out the middle of the mould with a sheet of PVC. This core was removed when the resin was still warm. Once the trays were cured, they were milled flat on the back, and a Foamex sheet glued into the centre. They were then painted with a hard wearing 2-pac paint, and the Logo picked out in purple using a lazer etched stencil.
