Job:

Cloud Lights

Location:

Stratford, London

Materials:

Vac-formed Plastic, light fitting

These charming Cloud lights were made for the Baby changing-rooms in the new Westfield shopping centre in Stratford.

The cloud was sculpted in Polystyrene, surfaced with plaster and sanded smooth. A plaster waste-mould was taken from this, and a Fiberglass cloud made. This was then split into two halfs, but with the split towards the back of the cloud. This meant that the split line between the two halfs of the vac-forms would be hidden towards the back, but meant a more complex vac-form pattern with an undercut. The larger half of the vac-form pattern was made of rubber, with a solid fiberglass core. This means that the core could be removed, and the flexible rubber pulled out from the the vac-form. It was a lot more work! But worth the extra effort as you can see.
