This exciting set of figures were made for Athlone Castle, and represent the 17th century Generals involved in the seige of Athlone.
Our brief was broad and Steve let his imagination run wild and produced some beautiful maquettes, which were gestural, abstract and almost cubist, with the figure suggested rather than modelled completely. We then scaled the figures up to life size, with Steve overseeing the general aesthetic. The hands and faces were modelled in clay in a similarly loose and gestural way, and moulded and cast in fiberglass. Details like the weapons and buttons were more carefully modelled, to give the figures some authentic details.
